“What the hell?” she exclaims. “Your stats are all out of whack! Why is your [Perception] so low? And what is the point of all that [Endurance]?”

“My [Perception] is not low!” I shoot back. “It’s average. And [Perception] is pointless. I kill monsters, alright? I’m not a university professor or a mechanic. I’m a spellsword.”

“That doesn’t explain why your Endurance is over one hundred levels higher than your [Strength].”

“I’m an [Endurance] junkie, alright? My fighting style is a bit crazy, and it drains [Stamina] at a much higher rate than normal. Additionally, I’m always running away from monsters. After a close call with a Plains Hyena, I decided that I was just going to go for a run every morning, no matter what. And, that settles that.”

“Interesting strategy, Blake. You’re one weird guy.”

“Pffft. I’m not weird, I’m cool as hell,” I say. “Hey Ravage, how cool am I?”

Ravage is already curled up into a scaly ball and half asleep. “Uhh, what? Oh, oh, I know this one!” He recovers and gives me a sly wink. “You’re cool as hell! Just like we practiced, Blake! You told me to say exactly that if you were hanging out with an attractive girl—”

“Shut up, Ravage!” I say.

“Did I say too much again? Whoops.” The dragon lowers his head back into his sleeping posture. “Cool as hell, Blake,” he repeats. “Cool as….” Ravage falls back to sleep.

From the expression on Nova’s face, I haven’t really sold her at all on anything about my stats, skills, or general competence as an adventurer.

“I’ll show you how stats should be balanced, Mr. Frostdeth,” she says in an almost condescending tone. “WatchTool, Stat Report!”
